As part of its ongoing commitment to marine conservation and environmental awareness, we4all Lebanon—a volunteer-based environmental group—has been organizing weekly beach cleanups along the sandy coast of Mina (El-Mina), Tripoli.

The initiative began on May 22, coinciding with the International Day for Biological Diversity, and continued under the “Green Blue” campaign running from May 31 to June 5, marking World Environment Day. The team first focused on the public beach known as “al-Masbah al-Shaabi”, near the Mina seafront, using biodegradable bags and engaging beachgoers and stall owners in awareness efforts about proper waste disposal and the dangers of littering.

Following the initial success, the campaign expanded to the adjacent beach near the naval base. The team regularly sifted sand, distributed eco-friendly waste bags, and spoke directly with visitors to promote responsible behavior, with a special emphasis on the threat posed by scattered plastic waste. These pollutants not only disfigure the landscape but also pose serious risks to marine life—particularly turtles, birds, and fish—and to human health.

On June 16, World Sea Turtle Day, the team organized an emotional and educational activity for children in Mina. The event featured a symbolic “Environmental Message Line,” where children hung handwritten messages and wishes for a cleaner and fairer future for nature and the sea.

The team reiterated that the public beach is not suitable for swimming, as confirmed by the latest reports from Lebanon’s National Council for Scientific Research. This reinforces the urgent need for sustained environmental awareness in the area.

We4all Lebanon expressed gratitude to all supporting partners, including Lavajet for timely waste collection, the Mina Maritime Police Station for logistical support, as well as media allies and dedicated volunteers who contributed in various ways.

Looking ahead, the team will continue its cleanup efforts on both beaches, while launching afforestation and planting activities in selected locations. The next phase will also feature educational workshops for children and interactive awareness sessions with the local community, aiming to build long-term environmental consciousness.
